Hi, I am a Jarvis living in Massachusetts.
I have assumed that Jarvis is a Welsh name. I think it is fairly common in Wales, plus we are Methodists - with over 90% of Welsh being Methodists...
The other connection I have, rightly or wrongly, is that in the 900's the Vikings invaded all along the British Isles and may have left names then. I met a Finn named 'Jarvi' and the word Jarvi means lake in Finnish. So it seems it could be a Viking name that was planted in the Brish Isles around then. ?
Would love to hear more...
Thanks, KJ.
