Paula,
I am pretty sure William Jarvis and Margaret (Thompson) Jarvis in Pendleton County, KY ar the same William Jarvis (Jarvos) and Margaret Thompson who married in Harford County, MD in about 1780.I am still trying to check out some inconsistencies in the MD early marriage records.
William is listed in the Maryland Colonial Census of 1776 in Bush River, Lower Hundred, Harford County, MD along with all members of the family. There are several Thompson families in the area whose records I have requested from the MD Archives.I initially picked the wrong Thompson family because there was no Margaret of the correct age. I am also beginning to check out more marriage records and burial records for the Jarvis family.Do you have something that positively indicates that William was born in Ireland in 1760?The 1776 census in Maryland indicates he was born circa 1760. Margaret's census and burial data indicates she was born in MD in 1762.
William/Margaret had one daughter Elizabeth (my great great great grand mother) born in Maryland in 1791 and a son James (my great great great grand father) who was born in KY in 1794 so they must have migrated to KY in the early 1790's. They had at least 8 children. In Pendleton County. they lived near the Dennis Conyers family and his son William married Elizabeth and moved to Ripley County Indiana where they raised their family and died.James also moved to Ripley County Indiana where he died at the age of 40+ and is buried.I think he was the father of my great great grand mother Catherine Jarvis. The Gilliland line intersects the Jarvis line in multiple places.
I can find both the Jarvis and Conyers family in Falmouth, Pendleton, KY in the 1810 and 1820 census.I find no trace of either William Jarvis or Dennis Conyers after 1820 and I theorize that they must have died.I can find no burial records from that period.I understand that the burials from that period in Falmouth are largely unmarked. DO YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT WILLIAM AFTER 1820?
I do find Margaret in Ripley County, IN living with her daughter Melinda and son-in-law Armit Robinson in 1850.She is buried in Benham Methodist Cemetery in 1853 along with Melinda and Armit (their marriage is listed in early marriages in Pendleton, KY)
I will let you know if I find any more early information from MD on the Jarvis and Thompson lines.Incidentally, the records are a little confusing about the spelling of Thompson (Thomson?).My great great grandmother's name was Margaret Thomson Conyers (although my cousins read the family bible as Thompson).
