There are still plenty of Jarvie's living here, and some of them may even have close family connections. Your research gives a fascinating glimpse into the origins and lives of the migrants from Scotland, beside whose adventures our own lives seem quite tame and dull by comparison.
As a younger man I backpacked and worked extensively in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, but I am not sure whether I would have been so keen to travel on those old sailing ships across the perilous oceans, lured by the hope of foriegn gold to the deserts of western Australia.
