I am welsh and originate from mid-west Wales where there does seem to be a far higher concentration of Jarmans compared to the rest of the UK.
I suspect it would have been a welshman who took the surname over to the states.
The origins of the name, so I have been told are French. In particularly Brittany where the local dialect bears a high resemblance to Welsh.
