Barbara;
Peter and Deborah info correct.
Deborah father was James McMahon (correct name McMichan but
records thru years have been spelled both ways)
Mother was Mary (maiden name unknown)
Children: Deborah (January) All kids bapt in Fulton Co.Pa
Hannah
Ephraim
Samuel
Father:James McMahon born Franklin Co.Pa. His will in Peters
Twsp,Cumberland Co.Pa.
Peter and Deborah January named their children after her
side of the family. We believe but not sure that their
dtr Sarah and son John were after his side. (No proof
because his parents are unknown)
Sarah Dejourdain was her birth name. Her father died when
she and sister were small and they took step-fathers name
of Crosse (William) She was bnorn abt 1674 in New Castle,
New Castle Co.Delaware. Married befo May,1692 in New
Castle to Thomas January. This was Thomas "the Immigrant"
He was born May 8,1669 in LaFlotte,Ile de Re,France
THOMAS (Immigrant)s father was THOMAS JANVIER born 1638 in
LaFlotte. His motheer was SUSSANAH MOUNIER born abt
21645 in LaFlotte. (This info from Thomas bapt cert.)
located in New Rochelle,France. This is the only record
that survived after French forces burned all homes,
papers etc. They also destroyed all Huguenot headstones
so that no records were left. (We walked this small
island trying to find info - it doesnt exist now per the
Historians in that area.
THOMAS JANVIER/SUSSANAH MOUNIER. His father was PHILLIPE
JANVIER who married MARIE ANNONNIER in LaFlotte. He
born 1618 LaFlotte and she also.
THOMAS -IMMIGRANT fled to England with mother and brothers.
All stayed there except our Thomas who came to US as
identured servant under Mr Rawles. He served his 7 yrs
to Mr Rawles, married and started family in New Castle,
Delaware. He was so angry with France for taking every
thing that family had that he took oath of Allegience
to Queen of England (late 1600's). He legally changedf
name to January (that is what Janvier means). Some of
his children (Thomas,Benjamin) took name January but
the others kept Janvier.
There was another Peter January who lived in Philadelphia
and then moved to Lexington,Ky mid 1890's. He married
Mary Walton, Jennet Belvarid and Margaret Ross. He was 1st
cousin to our Peter/Deborah. We believe that he was son of
Thomas, son of Thomas the Immigrant.
A group of us has spent over 35 yrs trying to get the
documentation for our Peters parents but nothing has come
to surface yet. I had professional genealogists in New
Castle research and they came up with nothing. This is our
only missing link down to present day. Many documents from
1800's are wrong but unfortunately people today take it
as gospel. We do know that our Peter was the grandson of
Thomas Immigrant and Sarah D.Crosse.We have narrowed down
the possibilities of father to Benjamin and John but still
cant find proof.
I descend from Samuel the brother of James Martin,Ephraim
and John.
Hope this helps you.
