Thanks for responding. I'm always happy to hear from a member of the "Jans" family. As for whether or not your ggrandmother was a daughter of Heike & Johanna (Koch) Jans - probably not. They were about 15 years old in 1868. However, Heike had a brother who married a Grietje Koch (a cousin to Johanna maybe?)in August 1868 so its possible that there were other siblings as well that I do not know of. The fact that these Jans families all ended up in and around Grundy, IA makes it quite possible there may be a connection! What else do you know about your ggrandmother? --Debbie
