GANUE family

Hi Wendy,
I would be pretty sure that Ganue is the english version of the french name Gagnon. My Gagnon's I have also found as Janot simply because they sound similar and of course no one could spell. As for how your folks ended up in NewYork...well most of my french canadian relatives have spent at least some time in NewYork. Alot of them went back and forth across the Quebec,NewYork and Eastern Ontario border like it wasn't even there. I have french canadian ancestors who were from Quebec, settled in NewYork and had kids and then the kids moved back to Quebec or Ontario. Alot of this was due to the political climate at the time being friendly and then unfriendly to french canadians as well as the civil war in the states. I suspect Muar is Moir in its french version. You will most likely find your roots do go back at some point to Quebec. Make sure you look for DIT names for your french.
