I wrote an article about Samuel Janney and his opposition to slavery, which was published in the Journal of Southern History in 1971
Vol. 37, No. 2 (May, 1971), pp. 159-190
and seems to be available free online at Jstor: http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/2205819?uid=3739936&uid=2134&uid=2&uid=70&uid=4&uid=3739256&sid=21101581572637http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/2205819?uid=3739936&uid=2134&uid=2&uid=70&uid=4&uid=3739256&sid=21101581572637
Not much genealogy, however.
I did pick up an interesting tidbit from a collateral descendant some years ago.
It seems Samuel's grandfather, whose name I think was Israel was at an advanced age when he had Abijah, Samuel's father. One day when Abijah was about two years old, Israel was walking down the streets of Alexandria with little Abijah and met a fellow-Quaker.The fellow-Quaker patted little Abijah on the head and said to Israel, "Well, I see this is thy last attempt."
Israel responded, "My last successful attempt!"
(I hope I have the names right!)
