Interesting. You mentioned a John Janke (Yanke). My gg-grandfather was named John, was born in the same year as the John Yanke that you mentioned, and homesteaded in Southern Alberta, Canada in 1910.

Was your John Yanke born in North America?
Mine supposedly came over from Germany.
