My great-grandfather was James Jasper Jamison. He changed his middle name to Jasper because that was the county in Missouri that he fled to in order to evade union pursuers of the Civil War.I do not know why he was fleeing; family legend has it that he was mistaken for a different James Jamison, who was actually the guilty party of a crime of which we do not know.Since, at that time, soldiers were more inclined to shoot first and ask questions later, he decided to take evasive action by hiding out and changing his middle name.It is news to me that he was a colonel; perhaps that was the other James Jamison. There is always a lot of confusion about my great-grandfather because he changed his middle name and it throws people off.My uncle is the genealogist in our family.I will try to contact him to get more information for you.If it turns out that our James Jamison is the one you are looking for, we have quite a bit of information.I will get back to you.
