A while back David Hedgpeth posted a letter written by an old friend of mine, Mr. Emmett Hoctor. It puzzled me, but I went on to other business, until today when I came across some old papers, reminding me of Emmett once again. At about 5:30 p. m. this evening I gave Emmett a call and asked him about Jesse James and his death and if he changed his mind about what we had discussed in previous letters (the traditional Jesse James history). This is what he asked me to post: "Linda, you can quote me on this. I am convinced Jesse James died in Missouri in 1882. I have never changed my mind about that. I do not believe he was James Courtney, but I do believe that everyone has the right to try and prove their theory." Mr. Hoctor is not satisfied with the exhumation and how it was handled in 1995, but he stated that fact had not changed his mind about who is in the Kearney grave. "There is too much other information to prove that Jesse died in 1882." Linda Snyder in KCMO "The James-Younger Gang and Their Kinfolk." ...a genealogy in progress...
