The Declaration of Recruit papers do not say 17 years 9 months. They say 17 years 3 months. I can see how you might not be able to see it as I had to minimize the photos to keep my webspace to my allotted amount. There is a loop on the top of the three crossing over itself, so you might think it looked like a nine. I can blow it up and email it to you if necessary.

I just read page 60 of Betty's book. As far as I can see this matches the photos in her book of JLC. What do we have to do get an expert in the growth of young men or you to understand boys grow after age 17? My own husband is 6'6 and he was only 6' when he graduated highschool. His brothers are 6'7" and 6'9" and did the same. They grew.

Who measured JLC, before and after the war? Did they approximate their height, or was someone carrying around a tape measure? Does it matter?

FACT: Jesse James had blue eyes, sandy-brown hair and fair skin.
FACT: JLC and his brothers in the "Big 4" are all over 6' and Jesse James never reached that height. He was 5'10 and Frank was 6'. You can see from accepted photos of both men, JLC was a large framed man; JWJ was a small statured man.

Last night I read, "Under the Black Flag," by Kit Dalton. He gives firsthand accounts of knowing Jesse James perdonally, (and Richard Wood Hite too). I would suggest you read this book but it is scarce, which is too bad because Kit was both with Quantrell and in some of the robberies that Jesse was accused of and he wasn't there. Kit tells of the ones he participated in. These things will be written up, when and if I think it necessary.

Linda
