David, last night I was thinking about this arguing, and you can call it a debate till the cows come home, but it is arguing. If you had not gone on and on in the manner that you have, most likely I could have worked with Betty, IF she truly wanted to find the truth about her grandfather. But, you have caused so much irritation, and nobody here knows what your angle is. I have made a list of both questions and statements, most of which will be shown graphically on my website. 1. The site is down. I forgot to resize some photos and were over 2MG each. I'm working on it. 2. Do you deny Bettys copy was reversed somehow, seeing where the buttons are on the other copies of the same photo, by two families who do not know eachother? 3. Can you explain how Diannah now has hands in the "Big Four" photo? I will give Betty the benefit of the doubt; in that her photo may have been disfigured (from a spill etc.) 4. James L. Courtney's signature on all documents on my website are in the same hand, including enlistment papers and request for pention and an 1871 Deed of sale. The war records plainly state JLC was entered into service by permission of his father. I have previoulsy addressed the height situation... he grew. Which is a great point. JLC was over 6' tall, but JWJ was no taller than 5'10" tops... as Frank was the taller of the two, see the cover of Philip Steele's book. (In the near future I will have text files, citing statements regarding persons who knew the Boys. This takes time.) JLC writes explaining why he deserted, he was not alone. He would not have known the details had he not been there. 5. Just because JLC mentions a name in his diary does NOT mean it is the same man in the James Gang. Also the man Betty calls Wilkerson in the Haun home was actually named Wilkinson and is plainly read (for once), age 15 in 1885 census. This is NOT a gang member. The Witherspoon/Worthington in the 1880 is a female and of no consequence. 6. One minute you are saying JLC was JWJ but he was not in the gang, he was living in Texas, then you are saying known gang members were known to visit him. Which is it? 7. I am perfectly clear on the issues, nothing confused here, except why you cannot admit these photos and documents prove their point. I can understand saving face, but there comes a point where a person would be more respected for admitting they made a mistake. My opinion? I believe that Betty found articles which she concluded her grandfather was Jesse James. I also believe that some of her "evidence" was "wishful thinking." She admits to watching the movie "Tombstone," wishing she was related to someone like that. Hey, me too. My dad was the ruler of the tv when I was a kid and we never missed a western: Paladin; Lone Ranger; Gunsmoke; Black Saddle; The Rebel; Bonanza; Little House... we saw them all and if there was a rerun, well dad said, "we must have missed this one," but we never did. My dad was a carpenter and never had a horse after he married my mom, but he wore his black hat and levis and we had a saddle he made, in the family room sitting on two nail barrels. Any little kids came round would love to sit on it. So you see we have loved all that stuff too. I believe Betty knows in her heart that she made a mistake and she doesn't know how to explain it to people. I don't think she needs to do that. We all make mistakes (even me David, I told you when I did right here, and Sharon pointed one out also and I admitted it as well). Did anyone think less of me for it? Were people laughing at me? Well sitting here I can't answer, but I am ok with it. Gosh David nobody is flawless, I wish I had a nickle for each of my mistakes. But Betty made hers publicly. I'm not looking for an explanation, or whatever you choose to call it, from Betty. I don't even want nor expect her to announce her grandfather was a great man, but not Jesse James. She knows. I am not looking for anything from either of you. I only want the claims that Jesse died in Texas halted and let Jesse James rest in peace, in Missouri. FACT: The DNA testing done in 1995 on JWJ was proven to be 99.7% sure to be that of JWJ. It has been clouded that the tooth did not come from the grave, well it did. Yes they found a canine at the farm, but it was the molar from the grave which conatined the necessary DNA. Linda 1. Why would Jesse James name children after JLC ancestors? 2. Why would Jesse James write about "Paw's Death in 1882" when his Paw died in 1850? Not to mention that he was already dead. 3. Why would Diannah write to son Jim in Texas, if he were Jesse James? 4. Why would Jesse James just pop into the Courtney family, and be accepted not only by parents, but brothers, aunts and uncles, cousins? 5. Why does Jesse James look so much like the others in the "Big Four," photo? Add Frank in there, it don't compute.
