This is not a contest with winners and loosers and I am not interested in showing Betty in error at all. It will not in any way, contrary to popluar belief, make me happy, nor shall I dance a jig, if she is proven wrong. I am attempting to do a genealogy on the James, Youngers and associates. Now David, about whether JLC was in the Union or CSA is not a matter for me to wonder, either way does not make any proof for me. I would like to see the war records, but without either Betty showing them or my spending my own money for copies, I doubt either is going to happen. Surely you cannot expect me to comment on something I have not seen. I understood Stephen Courtney had to sign for JLC to enter the war because he was underage. If that was true is there not a record of it and to which side he was enlisting? You asked that I also put anything in Betty's favor. I might have one thing and you can tell her or she might read this. It may be proven that JLC was not a deserter, but that one of the "big four" stole a horse in order to go and see his brother, who was at war. How would that be? Is this what troubles Betty so, that story of the deserter? I can understand that, if this is the case. Perhaps I am helping Betty and she does not even know it. Linda
