I hope I am on a truth seeking journey, that is why I questioned the traditional "because that is the why it has always been" mindset of history when evidence has been brought out to the contrary. I know that some think a good defense is a great offense, but personally I take offense at those who resort to personal attacks, insinuating untruths etc. If I speak the same words of others, then I am happy to know that I am not the only one who questions and seeks the truth. I wrote once that we make impressions about ourselves by the character of the posts we write. It is not like we can met and have a verbal conversation (complete with tone and accentuation of words and body language) to help us make a good impression. I believe David because of that character he portrays in his postings and believe it or not, I do believe others who support the other views contrary to David or Betty because of the character of their postings. David has written retractions and apologies about a misstated fact or statement but the fact that he has done this is an indication of his truthfulness in his postings. Everyone is allowed to make a mistake, but to ignore it or try to cover it up is not acceptable. I have a hard time accepting the postings that are argumentative to the point of inferring "Someone is Right and everyone one else is wrong" ,and not offering any actual proof or fact to support it, if they do not produce any evidence to the contrary, they are meaningless words. Because of previous postings like that, when a posting comes with so called proof, I take it with a grain of salt until I see the other side, I even went to the web site, but will wait until both sides are heard before deciding which I believe. You have even gone so far to write that all statements are false if they are from David ("David Hedgpeth's statements are false"). Or did you mean to infer only the Transcript statement is false? you did use the plural form for Statement but I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you only meant the statement I was discussing on this thread. I do agree with your statement" Arguing about it on this forum is fruitless." but that is because most of us are not here to argue but to learn by asking questions that no one wants to answer- There is an old saying; Make The Words You Speak Today TENDER, WARM AND SWEET For Tomorrow they may well be WORDS YOU'LL HAVE TO EAT. author unknown maybe we should all insert the word "WRITE" for the word "SPEAK". I think it would work better than trying to argue. Actually I would of believed the traditional version of JWJ history if it hadn't been for the vicious nature of the attacks of the OTHERS who dared question it. I remember the first time I learned of Betty Duke and read the article in our local Electric COOP magazine and thought to myself "here is just another family story that is more exaggeration than fact." I have since changed my mind because of the statements of those who disagreed and made such a personal attack against the messenger (Betty), if there was nothing to her evidnence, Then there would not been cause for lawyers, to prevent tests, The test would be done, the issue would have standing one way or the other - If we can execute a person for his DNA evidence and circumstantial evidence, then we should be able to find the truth about JLC, there would not be such a controvesity as there is now. I don't know if JLC and JWJ were the same person, or if J. Frank Dalton or some other unnamed person was JWJ. But I do believe now that JWJ did not die as traditional history reports and is not in the grave in MO and I believe there were problems in the DNA tests that were conducted based on that, I will continue to learn, read, and ask questions. If JWJ did not die in MO in 1882, then when did he? How was he able to change from a ruthless outlaw to a solid citizen? Why would the govener help the family of a outlaw and not others? There are so many quetions and so far so few answers. Again, I am on a journey of the Truth seeking. Lets hope others will too. Ms Ivy
