Eppie Perry > Mary Murrah, marr. Palmer Reed > x, who marr. a Mr. James
I am hunting descendants of Eppie Murrah’s daughters, for DNA testing (entirely at my own expense).
Eppie may have had other daughters who bore children, but the ones known to me are as follows.
(1) Arrie Murrah (27 Dec 1891 - 18 Aug 1969).She marr. Taylor Young.(I believe Taylor to have been his middle name.Another of his names was George.)They had at least one dau., b. about 1917.Taylor is bur. at the Corinth City Cem., Corinth, Alcorn Co., Miss.Arrie is bur. at the Henry Cem., in the same city.
(2) Jessie Mae Murrah (19 Apr 1894 - 29 Nov 1989).She marr. Alexander Patton Boggs. They had at least one dau., Virginia Mae Boggs.
(2.1) Virginia Mae Boggs was b. 15 Feb 1916 and d. 8 Oct 1969.She marr. Julian Carl Deal (30 Jan 1912 - 25 Feb 1987).He marr. 2nd, Marjorie Reeves (8 Jul 1925 - 10 Dec 1999).All three are bur. in Tupelo Memorial Park, Tupelo, Lee Co., Miss.Virginia Mae’s parents are bur. there, as well.In 1940 Virginia Mae was working as a voice instructor. There is a piano engraved on the tombstone she shares w/Mr. Deal.
(3) Mary Murrah (14 Dec 1907 - 2 Jan 1999).She marr. Palmer Reed (16 Aug 1908 – 28 Jun 1989).(I have seen his middle initial given as “M” and as “R.”His tombstone uses the latter.)This couple is bur. at the Henry Cem., Corinth, Alcorn Co., Miss. They had at least two daughters.
(3.1) X marr. a Mr. James, and may be living in North Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Ark.
(3.2) Y marr. a Mr. McElhannon and may be living in Olive Branch, DeSoto Co., Miss.
Between them, these two daughters of Mary (Murrah) Reed had at least one dau., maybe two.The one marr. a Miller.Spouse of the second appears to be a Hubbert. All are, or formerly were of Memphis.
My great-grandmother was Josephine Lister and the 1880 census demonstrates that a person of that name was Eppie’s half-sister.
Both Josephines (mine and Eppie's) were born in Alabama in 1862. I am wanting a test to prove (or disprove) that they are one and the same, rather than persons who coincidentally had the same name.
The records have failed me, so a DNA test seems the only option. All the test requires is rubbing a swab inside one’s cheek, and then mailing it to the lab in the provided envelope. The lab would be Family Tree DNA of Houston, Texas, and it enjoys a national reputation.
Family Tree DNA has no interest in, nor does it test for health issues. Furthermore, privacy is a major focus: neither identities nor results are never disclosed by the lab to third parties.
What I am wanting is a test of mitochondrial, or female DNA. Therefore the person tested must come from an unbroken line of female descent from Eppie: daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, etc.)
I have already sponsored a test for my first cousin. Her sample is of record at Family Tree DNA and it would serve as the comparator.
So if you can, please put me in touch with someone willing to submit a sample. (Again, this would be at my own expense — I will bear all of the cost, entirely on my own.)
Regardless of your interest in DNA, I will be happy to share the fruit of my research for Eppie's maternal line. Please request it by e-mail to lhhead2 at gmail dot com.I will then attach it to my reply, as a PDF file.
Thank you for your consideration.
