Am I related to Jesse James?

Has anyone done Jesse James' tree for the descendents of the furthest James. There is a story in my family that we are related to Jesse James, My great-grandmother's maiden name was James. I have gone back a few generations, but found no direct connection to Jesse James' family tree.
-- Edwin C. is the furthest I have found, I think he is related, maybe brother, to a W.H.G James (married to Margaret). In the 1850 Census, Horry South Carolina, there is EC James 26yrs, WHG James 29yrs, and Margaret James 21 yrs. I though maybe this WHG could be a William James? and Margaret could be Mary or Molly? I swear I saw a census before 1850 with EC and WHG together in New York.
