I don't think it Frank Triplett was Edwards because Triplett was in St. joseph shortly after Jesse was killed and would have been known as Edwards to people there. He also wrote other books:
1. Conquering The Wilderness, Or, New Pictorial History Of The Life And Times Of The Pioneer Heroes And Heroines Of America (just typing the title gave me writer's cramp)

2. The Authorized Pictorial Lives of Stephen Grover Cleveland and Thomas Andrews Hendricks

Of course it may have been a pseudonym.

Per Amazon.com Frank Triplett was a St.Louis author and mining man of the late nineteenth century.
