William M. James Jr. born Catawba, NC June 21 1836, died in Cameron, Texas, Nov. 2, 1880. His census records show his parents were born in Virginia. William James, Jr. served in the 83rd Ohio Vol. in the Civil War, for the Union Army. Family notes show that his mother's maiden name was Mary Carpenter he had a sister Elizabeth and a half-brother Hiram and 5 other half-sisters from his father's earlier marriage. I am looking for anything about William James, Snr. or this Mary Carpenter. I do have a large tin-type that I believe is of some of this family. I cannot find any census records that seem likely.. Please help..
