FANTASTIC!!!

I have relatives in Texas...several cousins and my step-father is from near
Ft Worth, so I have a little insight. I have a couple more for you...from
personal experience.

1. If a Texan begins a conversation with the phrase "Now this is a true
story...." WATCH OUT! First of all, it is going to be very close to
unbelievable (if not totally), and sit back, because this is going to take a
while.

2. If you're not real sure what a grit is, don't order them.

3. Everyone in Texas is either related to Jesse James or knows EXACTLY who
the shooters were on Nov 22, 1963....or both.

4. Wear boots! But not NEW ones! Borrow some if necessary, and a little
manure just adds to the believability.

5. If you don't have a cowboy hat, a cap will do. But it must have a logo
on it of either hunting, farm machinery, stock car racing or anything about
Texas. Of course, the rebel flag is always accepted.

6. Don't order anything in a restaurant that might label you a "sissy"! A
large slab of anything dead is always appropriate.

7. NEVER ask directions! It is far better to not arrive at your
destination at all than to advertise that you are a "foreigner".

8. Be ready for the phrase "I knew a guy once who....".

9. Be ready to point out that THOUSANDS of people moved from Missouri to
Texas in the mid to late 1800s, so the phrase "HEY! We're probably
cousins!" can always be used when necessary.

10. Don't laugh, regardless of how ridiculous the whole thing is!!!!

How's THAT for off the top of my head? See? I know a little about Texas!

On a more serious note:

It may be that they WON'T announce the date of the exhumation! Or as you
put it, "after the fact". Honestly, if I were running that show, I wouldn't
want it to end up being the circus that Kearney was in 1995. Regardless of
how "newsworthy" it might be, there just isn't any reason for some of the
actions that were taken during that one. There were news truck LITERALLY
driving THROUGH that cemetery, cutting ruts and straddling ground level
stones. People were walking through the cemetery selling t-shirts and snow
cones. I guess I just have more respect for the dead than that...no matter
WHO they really are...or were. The proposed exhumation has been on ABC news
nationwide, and on several television news shows. If they release the date,
I'm pretty sure that Granbury will end up looking a lot like Kearney did.
We'll see.

By the way, other than possibly from the documentary I was on, I doubt that
there would be anyone there who would recognize me. Of course, knowing my
luck, The Learning Channel or the History Channel will start running it
again just as soon as they hear of an exhumation date. I guess I could grow
a beard and wear dark glasses. You know I'm kidding. I really do hope to
be able to get down there, but I'm going to need a few days notice. Can't
just jump in the car and take off for a few days. I'm hoping they do it
through the middle of the week. My weekends are pretty much full with the
radio station and other commitments.

I'm still waiting for the "Top Ten" list of debatable questions!!!! Come
on, Buddy! Lets get with it! The conversation has come down to some bits
of speculation, "things to come" and a few arguments!!! We need to
re-stimulate the debate!

Later!

Phil
