I think the Jakes' I look for may have originated from England ("Hall of Names" says the name is originally from Yorkshire, Eng.) My earliest found, lived in Virginia, 1790.
A marriage record has two spellings (Jakes and Jacques) on the same document. The spelling "Jakes", also appears for people from Czeck Republic area.
