Jaffray and Craig in Eyemouth then to America
My name is Brian J. McIntyre. My GG Grandfather was Christopher Jaffray Craig born about 1837 to Robert Craig and Elizabeth Jaffray in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, Scotland. The family consisted of Robert Craig and wife Elizabeth, Christopher J. Craig, John Craig and Robert D. Craig. They originally immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and there it was that Elizabeth died. Robert Craig Sr passed away in Whitewater, Walworth County, Wisconsin in 1868. My GG Grandfather was Christopher Jaffray Craig who went on to fight in the American Civil War on the Union side. He became a Captain before the war ended. He married my GG Grandmother, Elizabeth Catherine Margaret Rue in High Forest, Olmstead County, Minnesota. They spent their lives and had 5 children in Sauk Centre, Minnesota where they are buried. I am descended from their daughter, Edith Elizabeth Craig - Richards who was the oldest child. My GG Grandfather used to talk all the time of fishing in the harbour at Eyemouth with his father, Robert Sr and his brother John. Robert Jr wasn't born until 1 year before they moved to America so he didn't remember the old country. I have tried very hard to trace this side of my family back in Scotland with not a lot of luck. Only bits and pieces here and there. I do know what I said above is true and that the names are correct and that they lived in Eyemouth and area before moving to America. I'd like to find out more about my Craig side and my Jaffray sides of the family. Anyone have any info? Thank you! Brian J. McIntyre - Helena, Montana, USA.
