Hi Linn,
I'm pretty sure that Francois Jacquet and Francois Morrell were the same person. The name change is presently creating a problem for my family because of the native registration. I have thoroughly gone through the records and have come to these conclusions. Let me know what you think.
14 June 1852 Francois Jacquet s/o Francois Jacquet and Francoise Borion from France married Bridgette Marche d/o Denis Marche and Charlotte LeJeune
By 1894, he is listed in McAlpine's as "Francis Morrell, Sr." and his son as "John Morrell". This surname is also used in the 1911 and 1921 census.
We know without a doubt that Bridgette Marche & Francois Jacquet's children were baptized in the name of Jacquet but we also know they definetly changed their name to Maurel. The proof is in the baptism records for their children that lists Bridgette Marche as the mother of all children. The marriage record for her children showing that the Jacquet children were married using the Morrell surname, and finally the 1911 census for Port au Port which shows the majority of Bridgette Marche's children and Bridgette herself using the Marel name.
I believe this has been successfully proved by providingthe following documents that show how I make my conclusions.
Francis Jacquet. June 14, 1852, Francois Jacquet s/o Francois & Francoise Borion from France married Bridgette Marche d/o Dennis & Charolette LeJeune ( Have marriage record listing Dennis Marche and Charlotte LeJeune as Bridgett's parents )

What does the 1911 Census tell us
1) Bridgette Marche's and Francois Jacquet's children were using the surname Marrell.
2) Confirms the fact that Isabel Marrel did indeed marry Michael Thomas.
3) Confirms Jacquet, Jean (John) son of Bridgett March and Francois Jacquet was using the surname Marrel in 1911, was a widower at age 54 with his 3 children also using the Marrel surname.
4) Confirms Jackey, James born June 17, 1872parents Francis Goutile and Bridget Marche who is using this name in Immaculate Conception R.C. Church: Baptisms, is the son of Francois Jacquet and that Goutile was Francois Jacquet's second name. This 1911 Census also confirms that James was a widower in 1911 at age 39 and 1 son. All persons living in Jame's household were using the surname Maurel.Jame's brother Dennis was living in Jame's household age 52 and never married. Jame's mother Bridgett Marche was also living in Jame's household, a widow at age 75. According to Bridgett's death record she died 7 years later. Her husband Francois Jacquet who had died 9 years before this 1911 census also has the name Morrel on his death record.
Why I believe the name Jacquet was changed to Morrell or one of its varients.
It is very clearly stated in the births and baptisms of Bridgette Marche's children who their father was, Francois Jacquet. This is the same person who is listed as her spouse on her marriage record. We see two of Bridgette Marche's childrenFrancis Goutile and James Jackey with their father listed as Francis Goutile . It is very likely that the name Goutile was in those baptism records because it was Francois Jacquet`s second name. Its also possible Francois Jacquet was using his second name as his surname. There is no way for sure of telling exactly whem the Jacquet name got changed to Morrell or its varients but we can make a very good guess. If we look at the following baptism in 1878 we can see that by the time Isabel was born the family was using the name Maurel.
Bapt. 19 April 1878 Isabel Maurel parents Francis Maurel & Bridgitte March bapt. by Joseph Vierouneau, sponsors John Gillis and Marg Leitch born 19 December 1877
We can also see that in the following 3 marriages of Bridgette Marche and Francois Jacquet's children that the family was using the name Morell in 1887 when their daugter Mary Josephine was married. Note her marriage record names her father Frank Morrell and that is the same name on Bridgette's husband's death record in 1902
