Hi Betty:
I have found a lot of "Jacobs" on the Final Rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes in Indian Territory - one being a John A. Jacobs 1/2 by blood listed on card #1580, Roll 5093. On that same card is Lizzie, Mary, Rebecca, Frank (parent), Frank (minor). It is my understanding that everyone of the card would be of the same family. There is a Jacobs Cemetery in Hughes County, OK, which is in the Indian Territory area. Those listed there are Lewis, Jesse, Ella, Newton, John, Frank, Jennie, Willie, Russell. There are several at McCurtain Co, OK cemetery as well. One interesting fact about the ones in this cemetery, two are listed nee Roden. History of Weleekta, OK tells of John Jacobs, a Creek, who was in the hardware business and how John Jacobs gave the town an indian name, Weleekta. Do you think this has any meaning?
Pat
