Hello Bill,
I could send you a copy of Joseph Jacober's death record (in German) if you give me your e-mail address and if the quality of the scanned document is good enough. I have also a copy of the marriage record of Joseph and Anne-Marie and the birth record of Anne-Marie Meyer. Her parents were Augustin Meyer born in Wittersdorf in 1766 and Catherine Basler (born in 1780).
I got the info about Anne-Marie Meyer in a publication of the South-Alsace historical Society about the Jacober's family. It is said about her(I translate):" In 1853 Joseph Jacober received a chock. Shortly after the birth of their 4th child his wife Anne-Marie left him and went to the USA. The reason why? We shall probably ignore it for ever. Of course emigration was very active at that time. But why did only she leave? One may find her trail in Loretto in 1853, then around 1890 in New-York. It seems that she died before 1900."
About the 4th child, I found his name, he was in fact the 3rd child: Eugen born on April 12 1852, died on August 27 1852. The 4th child was Henri who staid in Alsace and has still a grand-grand-grand-daugther named Christelle in Alsace.
I live near Nice on the French riviera and as I am far from Colmar I already asked my sister who leaves nearby Colmar to make investigations at the archives office.
You may also get information about the families of the South of Alsace at the Centre Departemental d'histoire des familles (CDHF)in Guebwiller. They have an Internet site: www.cdhf.net
Sincerely, Dominique.
