“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of those faithful to Him.“ Psalm 116:15 (TNIV)
Mildred J. McCoy passed away peacefully surrounded by her
family on Friday, December 27, 2013. She was born June 17,
1921.
She was 92 years old and was an inspiration to all who knew
her. Having a strong faith in Jesus Christ, Mildred served
God faithfully as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-
grandmother, as well as friend and volunteer.
As a long time member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in
Kingsport, TN, Mildred served in many ministries over the
years. In her later years as she was more confined, she prayed
intentionally and regularly for family, friends and neighbors.
Preceding Mildred in death were her husband of 71 years,
Daniel T. McCoy, Jr.; parents, James and Estelle Threatt
Jackson; and brother, Jimmy Jackson.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sarah Walters and
husband Don, of Kingsport, TN, Sue Callaway and husband
David, of Lenoir City, TN, Mary Owenby and husband Frank,
of Kingsport, TN, and Martha Barnett and husband Ted, of
Fayetteville, GA; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grand-
children; sister, Betty Connor; and sister-in-law, Nannette
Jackson, of Chester, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to
the staff of Preston Place Suites and Amedisys Hospice for
their loving care and support of Mildred.
There will be a memorial service at Pactolus United
Methodist Church, Monday December 30, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.
Pastor Steve Pedersen, grandson-in-law of Mildred, will be
officiating, and visitation with family members will be
immediately following. The church address is 170 Pactolus
Rd., Kingsport, TN 37663.
The family is requesting that any contributions, in lieu of
flowers, be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, at 1593
Warpath Dr, in Kingsport, Grandfather Home for Children at
