Looking for actual NAMES of children of Lydia Margaret Oneal and Joshua Jackson
Looking for actual NAMES of children of Lydia Margaret Oneal and Joshua Jackson.
When I do a search on the internet, all I find are stories about the Indians killing Lydia and Joshua, and a couple of names of their children.
Does anyone know all the names?
I have been sent links to a 1850 Harrison County, Texas census that supposedly listes initials and shows a head of household with the initial of "J" and the wife as "L"
although it looks as much like an "S" as an "L".
The children range in age from 21 down to very young baby.
Seems everyone also wants to parrot one another that Joshua Moses Jackson was the son of Ester Hart and Samuel Jackson but I cannot find any proof of that. Joshua may have been related to Samuel Jackson but Joshua was not a son.
I found one website that listed these names as children of Ester and Sam Jackson. I have added them here along with my owns notes in "(- - -)" and if you read this posting, you please be the judge if you can help or are interested.
Children of ESTER HART and SAMUEL JACKSON are:
i. HENRY B. JACKSON, born c1786 in North Carolina d. 1875, died Texas. (age 84 in 1870 & Living with son Reuben A Jackson) Henry married Polly Clay 21 September 1812 Williamson County, Tennssee. - - -not any way in the world this man was a son of Ester & Sam Jackson, Reuben A. Jackson married Nancy Elizabeth Clark)
ii. SARAH JACKSON, b. 1792, North Carolina; d. Texas. (Sarah was younger than Lydia, her father Samuel Jackson signed for her to marry Richard Starr, brother of William Starr. Sarah married AFTER Lydia and WIlliam married)
iii. LYDIA JACKSON, b. 1800, North Carolina; d. after 1860, Harrison County, Texas. Married Willliam Starr in Clinton County, Ohio)
iv. ISOM JACKSON, b. 1804, North Carolina; d. 1878, Harrison County, Texas. (Possible son)
v. REBECCA RACHEL JACKSON, b. 1808, Ohio. (Rachel Jackson married Garrett Newman, she died in Tennessee, don't have any proof of name Rebecca, they had number of children)
vi. JOHN STURDIVANT JACKSON, b. 1809, Ohio; d. 1880, Coryell, Texas. (This seems to have been the son John that married Mary Anne Winchester)
vii. MOSES JOSHUA JACKSON, b. August 05, 1810, Copiah County, South Carolina; d. October 21, 1858, Pecan Bayou, Brown County, Brownwood, Texas, now MiIls County. (Ester Hart and Samuel Jackson supposedly married in Highland County, Ohio c1790. Seems both may have had family/parents residing there.) NOTICE other children born Ohio before and after Joshua born South Carolina)- (Have PROOF Ester & Sam were in Clinton County, Ohio having other chidren)
viii. CORNELIUS MOSES JACKSON, b. May 07, 1814, Ohio; d. January 13, 1869, Llano, Llano County, Texas. (Married twice)
ix. J. JACKSON, b. 1816, Tennessee. (Unknown & big question as to who this was)
x. A. JACKSON, b. 1817, North Carolina; d. 1854, Texas. (Unknown & big question as to who this was, notice the birth place was North Carolina)
xi. NANCY ANN JACKSON, b. 1818, Ohio; d. 1856, Upshur, Texas. (Nancy married George B. Medlin, they had a number of children)
xii. MARY E. JACKSON, b. 1830, Tennessee; d. before 1880, Harrison County, Texas. (I have been trying to locate this Mary Jackson for years. Joel Starr married a Mary Jackson in Harrison Coounty, Tx. Mary according to the census was born in Tennessee about 1830. Unless Joel married his Mothers sister, this is not a daughter of Ester and Sam Jackson either. I have never found any proof of them having a daughter named Mary.)
xiii. EMMELINE JACKSON, b. 1836, Mississippi married George W. Rogers. (Emmeline was the daughter of Mary Anne Winchester & John Jackson, son of Ester Hart and Sam Jackson, Emmeline was not a daughter of Ester and Sam Jackson as researcher states on website).
xiv. ESTER ANN JACKSON, b. March 02, 1839, Shelby, Texas. (The family of Samuel Silas Jackson was not even in Texas in 1839, whoever this Ester Ann Jackson was, did not belong to Ester and Sam Jackson or any of their sons.)
xv. MOSES JACKSON, b. 1840, Texas. (Moseswas also a son of Mary Anne Winchester and John Jackson, grandson of Ester and Sam Jackson. This Moses married Margaret Morrison).
xvi. WILLIAM MILES JACKSON, b. About 1847 not 1842, Texas (Appears to have been a 13 year old Wm M Jackson in 1860 Coryell County, Texas with parents named John Jackson age 50 And Sarah L Jackson age40 and other children in household.)
I have found several unrelated Jackson families in Harrison County, Texas.
I have found Samuel Jackson and the Starrs traveling and moving together for some decades though. If the 1850 census showing a "J" and "L", did happen to have been Joshua and Lydia Jackson, I found several other Jackson families on the same page and the next page but none of the families seem to have been the normal families found in the Harleton, Texas area near Marshall and in Harrison County & Upshur County, where Samuel Jackson and his daughters appeared to have been living.
One researcher shows a daughter for Lydia and Joshua as having been born in Jefferson, Texas, and gives the parents of Joshua as Mary Ashe or Ashley and William Jackson.
Jefferson, Texas is just across the county line north of Harrison county. The Harleton area and Upshur County is to the west of the county. Usually the families stayed together as close as possible. Why would Lydia and Joshua have traveled west (in Texas) and the remaining Jackson family members stayed behind?
If yu have read this posting hanging in here that long, it's appreciated, and if anyone can add anything, please do.
Thanks
Ann
