Bessie Viola Farley
FARLEY, Bessie Viola – Went to be with the Lord Jesus, on June 22, 2004, at a rest home in Roseburg, Oregon. Bessie was born on February 14, 1908, in Cornstalk, West Virginia, to Charles W. and Hanna U. (Stallard) Jackson. Bessie attended school in Cornstalk and had many fond memories of being the teacher’s helper in grade school and even getting caught in a thunderstorm while picking blackberries with her sister, Mary. Her first job was farm work, consisting of picking apples and milking cows. Bessie enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, fishing, and gardening. She loved flowers, baby pigs, and bird watching. Bessie was the ninth of eleven children, Paige, Nancy, Martha, Rachel, Dulcie, Tolby, Frank, Mary, Victor and Stella. On May 9, 1925, Bessie eloped with her fiancé, J. Evan Farley, to Vanceburg, Kentucky. The couple were married for over 66 years until his passing in 1992. They had five children, Rosetta DeForest of Scottsdale, Arizona; Evan E. Farley of Iowa Park, Texas; Richard W. Farley of Loma, Colorado (now deceased); Patricia Steffensen of Winston, Oregon; and Dwight D. Farley of Gilbert, Arizona. Bessie is also survived by 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Rest Haven Park Cemetery in Glendale, Arizona. Funeral Services are pending for Monday, June 28, 2004, in Phoenix, Arizona.
