Hello all, and let me jump in at this point.

Jessie Mary Jackley Hurst Moore married my great-grandfather, Frederick Winfield Moore on 8/30/1915 in NYC. It was the second marriage for both, I believe. I have a copy of the wedding invitation. According to NYC censuses, Alfred, Jr., lived with Fred, Jessie, and my grandfather for a while in NYC.

Jessie and her step-daughter, Havilah Moore, were killed in the September 1938 hurricane while they were in their summer home on Napatree Point in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Both of them are buried in Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, RI.

My grandfather, Paul J. Moore, wrote a book about his efforts to find Jessie and Havila after the hurricane (The Search: An Account of the Fort Road Tragedy).

I was able to find out a bit more about the Jackley family, beginning from their time in MA. I even found a naturalization record for Jacob Jackley from 1860, I think.

I have some more info, if you're interested. I'd also be grateful to learn more about the Hursts. My dad has some memories of Alfred, Jr., but I'd welcome any more info you have on the family. One thing that still puzzles me is how my great-grandfather, who was born in RI and later lived in NY and CT, even met Jessie from Indiana.

Thanks, Rod Moore
