in relation to the post by JC...
i have (George) Emanuel Izer & William Izer as brothers. George went by his middle name. He comes up in the census as Emanuel Izer. i found out they were brothers from their civil war service records. in some war records George's name is seen as George E. Eizer. at yorkheritage.org you can find a very helpful civil war soldier index created by Dennis Brandt. i think it's under special collections.
