Sorry I'm so late in reading/responding your message, but I see your question has been answered.I wonder if the word "terrible or ferrible' in the list could have been Ferribe, because a Phoebe (or Ferribe), as a widow, received some compensation. Also, Mason and Louis Ezzard went to court to save some land for Phoebe's children after her second husband died and left it to a male child born out of wedlock. She was an Ezzard widow before she married this Corley fellow in SC.
More Mystery.
Also I have a copy of a letter dated Feb.8, 1943, to Robert Ezzell by a man named "Jack" at Father Hubbards Cupboard , P.O. Box 83, Central Station, St. Louis, Mo.In this letter he is selling family info. to Robert Ezzell that he supposedly found in old Harrisons Ezzell/Ezzard's Bible.(Harrison was Mason's son or nephew, the Jury is still out on that one, as far as I'm concerned).
He advises Robert to stay away from Izzards and Ezzards, that they are not Ezzells ?This was 1945 and info was not readily available as it is today. So, who knows what sources he had during the War years.
He talks about Harrison's Mother as one Elizabeth Harrison , a sister to Battaille Harrison.Their Father was Lawerence (his spelling) Harrison, son of Andrew Sr. of Virginia. He goes on to say that Battle and William Harrison of Adair Co. Kentucky were Father and son, William being the son of Battaille.
He states"Elizabeth Harrison married Mr. Mason, no one being sure if Mason was his first or last name , but he was from So. Car. and had been married once before"
You are wondering about now "why is he telling me all this".I just think it is important to know that there was confusion in 1943 and because of the Obituary on my Great Uncle "Mace" Ezzell in Tenn. 1913 or 1916, there is more confusion when they threw in the "French Connection" idea by saying that his Grandfather was a Frenchman who fought with M. De Motier de Lafayette.
There were three "matelots" or sailors listed with LaFayette's forces. They sailed on separate ships. They were Mathieu, Jean and Louis Izourd. Is this a variation of Izard?I don't know.
