I am one of the Texas Ivins.I have also been told of the story. What was told to me:
A father and his two sons were traveling to Marshal Texas, a relocation from TN following the wife's death. They were traveling from farm to farm, working as they could to raise more money to continue the journey.
The father tripped on a corncob, hit his head on a rock and died. The two boys, unable to take care of themselves, were adopted by two separate families. The boys were to be separated, but vowed that when they were old enough, and at a specific date, they would meet again in Marshall.
On that date, one son went to Marshall County, OK, and one sone went to Marshall (city), TX.
The two sons never knew what happened to each other, propably given the lack of communication in the 1800's.
Today, you have the "East Texas Ivins" and the "North Texas Ivins."Two groups of relatives trying to bridge the gap.
Sounds like a great movie!!
