Do you have any reason to think that Polly is connected to Vardaman Ivey/Ivy except locality?? I have been researching the Ivys, Iveys for years and have found that different and apparently unrelated lines of Ivys or Iveys wind up at the same place at about the same time Camden or Morgan County, Missouri, etc. Or take the 1850 Decatur County, Tennessee census. The Phillip Ivey (Methodist Minister) is undoubtedly Phillip Ivey's son (my third great grandfather Benjamin Ivy's brother), James Western (Baxter Ivy's stepson) also moved to Decatur County although I still don't think that Elisha, Martha, Baxter, Vardaman, etc. are connected or all that CLOSELY connected to my line of the Ivys. Also listed on the 1850 Decatur County are Ivys I can't identify. Included in one of the households is a child named Kinchen. Now Kinchen is a fairly distinctive name and I ASSUME these Ivys would would be connected to the Benjamin Ivy of Randolph County North Carolina. One must watch these assumptions with the Ivys/Iveys/Ivies.

I think your Polly might be my mysterious Polly. Polly is not MY Polly of course as meaning a direct ancestor. Polly Ivey's household (4 persons free colored) is listed next to Zera Magee on the 1810 Grainger County Tennessee census so I think she is more likely connected to Elisha, Martha, Vardaman and Baxter Ivy (Hardy County Virginia) as opposed to my Henry Ivey line (came to Grainger County, Tennessee from Orange County NC). Anyway if you have reason to believe your Polly is connected to Vardaman, Sr. and Vardaman, Jr. I think the Polly listed on the 1810 Grainger County census could be her. I don't think she is JUST a stray Ivy. Admittedly I have been able to find virtually NOTHING to explain Polly.
