By 1850 we had 4 different Charles Iveys in Robeson County. I knew they would be a pain to work with because in 1800 we had two Charles and Edith Combos. I believe they did live in different swamps, but sorting all the land records is something I won’t even try. Charles Ivey (I think son of Thomas) 1800- Charles Ivey 00100/10100 Young married couple with a daughter born 1790-1800 Edith Ivey 11000/10010 (They are next to Thomas) 1810-Charles ivey 30010/21010 Edey Gilbert 01000/01001 1820-Charles Ivey 121001/20101 Note that the male in the 3rd column is one of those in the 2nd column. Edey Ivey/ Gilbert is not listed 1830 Not found Children of Charles Ivey 1 f 1790-1800 still at home 1820 3 m 1800-1800, 1 is missing by 1820, 2 still at home. Does not appear in 1820 census. 1 m 1810-1820 2 f 1810-1820 --------------------------- Charles Ivey, son of Benjamin and Edith Ivey b 1755-1774 per 1800 and 1767 per 1850 census There is a deed 31 Dec 1773 in Edgecombe County, Benjamin and Edith Ivey sell land willed to Benjamin by his father, Adam Ivey. Book F p 210 6 Oct 1785? John Phillips of Bladen Co to Edey Ivey of Bladen County. 20pounds, 400 acres. Indian Swamp. Can’t read description. Pat to Phillips Nov 1784. Wit John Britt, Frances Ivey. Rec Jul 1795. (This seems significant to me because John Britt was the son-in-law of Gilbert Cox, and also because it was also witnessed by Edey’s brother-in-law, Francis Ivey.) Book F p 343 5 Aug 1795 Charles Ivey to David Howell. 20 pounds. Bet Flower’s lands and Little Indian Swamp. West side of tract surveyed for John Phillips. Can’t read description. Edey Ivey owned, sold to David ? (prob Howell). Signatures Edith Ivey and Charles Ivey. Wit Carroll Lee, -- Lewis. There are numerous deeds which mention Charles Ivey, don’t know which is which. Census 1790 Edey Ivey 1 male over 16, 1 female Same page, Luke Ivey 1--. Never found again. Could he be Lewis? 1800 Charles Ivey 00010/20100 Charles is 26-45 and his wife 16-26. They have two daughters. Edith Ivey next to Charles 01000/00101. Note the male 10-16, born 1774-1780. The girl 16-26 could be his wife. 1810 Charles Ivey not listed. Probably listed with his mother. Edith Ivey -- 5 0ther free persons (Edey, Charles, his wife, their two children 1820 Charles Ivey 200001/20010 Edey Ivey living alone, over 45. She is not the d-in-l of Thomas, whose name would be Gilbert 1830 Charles Ivey free colored 1 male 1806-1820, 1 male 55-100, 1 f 1806-1820, 1 f 36-55. I think this is the son of Benjamin because of the wife 10 years younger. Edey Ivey not listed 1840 Charles Ivey 000000001/--. His wife has died. Would have expected him to be ten years older. 1850 Robeson Co--Charles Ivey Sr 83 born Robeson, Elizabeth 65 born Brunswick Co, James Stanley 5. Note that Charles Ivey Sr married Elizabeth Stanley 6 Nov 1847. There is a Charles Ivey Jr next door to Charles Ivey Sr. This Charles Jr was born 1811, wife Ann b 1811, John P Ivey b 1842. Note that this Charles Ivey jr was listed in the 1840 census 00011/0001. I wouldn’t think the child 15-20 was theirs. So we have an extra male 1820-1825 who may or may not be an Ivey. Also in this 1850 hshld, Rachel Wiggins 25 b Columbus County, Calvin Carter 17, David Davis 13, and Wm J bivens 21. ---------------------- Charles Ivey b 1795 Married Susanna Britt 1821, d/o John Britt 1820 Charles Ivey 00010/01210 1830 Charles Ivey 000101/222001 (Maybe this unexpected male is the husband of one of the daughters.) 1840 Charles Ivey (Creek) 0100201/1221001 1850 Robeson County, Charles Ivey 55, Susan 50, Mary 25, Kitty 23, Susan 21, Harrington 19, Allis 17. Note that on the same page are Benjamin Ivey 45 and Leonard Ivey 36 and families. --------------------- So here we have 4 Charles Iveys before 1850 Sorry if the spacing gets a bit mixed up on this. It is hard to predict how tabulations will translate. I had this nearly done online earlier, but it somehow disappeared, so I did it over on a word processor and copied from the clipboard.
