Trist Stuart, w/o Newell Bright Ivester
Newell Bright Ivester (1856-1929) was an uncle of mine, Newell being a son (and the fourth child) of William N. Ivester 1813/5-1904.(My direct line is from Newell's eldest sibling, Andrew Alexander Ivester 1848-1930 m. Elizabeth Ann Franklin 1852-1933; the latter couple are my great-grandparents).
Newell Bright's wife, I'm told was one Trist (Trissie) Stuart, b. 1863 and d. 1950; they are buried, as are a great many of my kin, in the New Liberty Methodist Church in Habersham Co., GA.
An "Application for year's support" lists appraisers as J. M. Inglis, J.B. Stewart,M.A. Ivester, J.A. Fry, and J. L. McClure."Fry" would be a cousin to Newell; William's sister, Barbary, married David Fry."Inglis" is the surname of a couple of CSA soldiers, 2 of whom I believe were in the 52nd GA (and among the CSA heroes at Vicksburg) and Alexander C. Inglis, a founding member if memory serves of one of the Methodist churches in Habersham, is my kinsman by marriage.
Three of Newell Bright's and "Trissie's" children (Ethel, Virgil, and Wessie) moved to Southern California.
There is a story in the family that Trissie was, in fact, an out-of-wedlock daughter of J.E.B. Stuart.I don't wish to give any offense, and I recognize that Gen. Stuart has in many circles a sainted reputation (despite an acknowledged weakness for pretty women) but can anyone prove or disprove this proposition?
