Burk P. Ives, Civil War soldier
Posted by: Ken Ives Date: September 18, 1999 at 18:35:12

Can anyone help me to positively identify a Civil War soldier named Burk P. Ives, who served in the 6th Pennsylvania Reserves? I think this is Burke Pennel Ives, who appears in ACI on p. 170. The International Genealogical Index says Burke Pennel Ives was b. at Plymouth, Litchfield County, CT, abt.1817, and had a brother named Sophronius Stocking Ives, b. abt. 1813. Their father was Michael Erskine Ives, who d. in Pennsylvania.

So among Civil War Verterans I find a Burk P. Ives and a Sempronius S. Ives, both serving in the 6th Pennsylvania Reserves. Sounds really suspicious, in spite of the spelling differences. The only real problem confounding positive identification is that Burk P. Ives’ service record gives his age as 26, whereas if the IGI is correct, then Burke Pennel Ives would have been 44 when the war began.

Anyone have any helpful information?
