Do you know anything else about your grandfather...parent's names, for example, and where THEY lived?Looking in my database I see several Ives/Stephenson connections, but none of them looks very likely based on the information you've provided.I can list them all out if you want, though. There could be something there that I'm missing.
Of my possibilities, the most likely (though still not a good match) would be this one:
Alexander Meade, b. 1821 in New York, married a woman named Stephenson (first name possibly Elizabeth).They had a daughter named Sarah Elizabeth Meade, b. 1859 in New Jersey.Sarah married Edwin Russel Ives (b. 1855 in Connecticut).They had two children that I know of, both born in the 1880's in CT, and neither named Carl.
Like I said, not an especially good match, but at least there's a connection to New York, and the time period at least makes it possible...sort of.
