And then there is a Butler Ives, b 1830 in Sheffield, MA who was a surveyor out in the Nevada, Ca area. (He is in Wikepedia and other places..well known person) Could he have been the dad of Peter Ives, who's mom was Maidu? Butler died in 1872 and Peter was born in 1872...pretty close! Interesting stuff!
