Monty's information brings up a question -- one I've wondered long and hard about but not yet been able to answer. What, exactly was the relationship between Joseph C. Ives and Levi Silliman Ives? The fact that Levi mentioned Joseph and his 3 sons in his will certainly implies a close relationship. Yet they were only distant cousins -- 4th cousins, I think, or thereabouts. Then again, his will may have had more to do with religion than blood relationships. Cora Semmes Ives was apparently, at least in later life, very religious. She was a devout Catholic, and became closely associated with the Jesuits of Georgetown University. Levi S. Ives was an Episcopalion bishop who converted to Catholocism in his later years. He spent much of the rest of his life trying to bring about the conversion of other protestants to Catholicism, and was also closely associated with the Georgetown Jesuits.
