Thomas Evant in the 1779 Tax List of 96th District, SC

Could anyone identify the Thomas Evant listed in the 1779 tax list of 96th District, SC?

I am grasping at straws trying to find the ancestry of my third great grandfather Peter Avant/Avants. Peter was born in 1779 (locality unknown), but I think he was in Laurens County, SC, when he married Mary Elizabeth Sharp (date unknown), the daughter of Isaac Sharp.

Peter was listed in the 1850 Census of Choctaw County, MS, as Peter Ivens.
