It is with great sadness the family of Mrs. Giuseppina "Josephine’ Genovese age 90 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, announce her passing in Hogarth-Riverview Manor on Friday, June 5, 2009. Josephine, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend was born October 16, 1918 in Risigliano Tufino, Italy, daughter of Antonio and Carmelia Genovese. In 1937 she married Andrew Genovese who bore the same last name as herself. Ferdinando, her first son was named after her husbands father and Carmelia, her infant daughter who died during the war was named after her mother. She reunited with her husband after World War 2 and they had their second son Antonio, who they named after her father. Andrew and Josephine immigrated to Fort William in 1952 where she was employed at McKellar Hospital in the house keeping department for 36 years until her retirement in 1983. Josephine’s greatest love was her family and grandchildren. To share in their lives by cooking and entertaining was her joy. On any given Sunday the family would gather for festivities and meals fit for a king. Gardening was her passion and until the age of 85 she grew a huge garden yearly. Anyone who visited went home with fresh produce. She was a very energetic and hard working person helping anyone in need. Josephine was a very religious person and lived by the golden rule through out her life. Josephine Genovese is survived by her sons Ferdinando (Rosa) and Anthony (Ruth) Genovese, grandchildren Sherry Vondette, Crystal Genovese and Michael Genovese, great-grandchildren Brandie, Jackyln, Laurissa, Alexis and Brook-Lynn. She is also survived by numorous relatives in Thunder Bay, Italy and the United States.She was predeceased by her husband Andrew, father Antonio, mother Carmelia and infant daughter Carmelia. Jiuseppina was also predeceased by all her eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in St. Elizabeth’s Church at 11:00am celebrated by Rev. Rey Ronquillo. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Vigil Prayers will be offered on Monday, evening at 7:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel. A tree will be planted in memory of Giuseppina Genovese in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 27, 2010. Notify Administrator about this message?
