Sacco from Italy to New York 1886

He may have been the M. Sacco, occupation barber, age 36, that arrived in New York 7 Sep 1886 from Naples Italy on the ship Polcevera. The ship's captain was Brofferio. Sacco traveled in steerage class.(Castle Garden Record)

It appears he was naturalized on May 31, 1894 in Kings County, NY under the name Melchione Sacco. He lived at 11 Sumpter St, NY at that time. One Louis J. Lang of 1666 Atlantic Ave, NY was the witness. Sacco's former nationality was under the King of Italy.

On June 5, 1900, a barber named “Machior” Sacco lived in Brooklyn’s Ward 30 in Kings County, New York. He was 44 having been born in Italy in August 1865. He had arrived in the United States in 1886 and was naturalized. His wife was Hanna also age 44 born in Germany in June of 1865. Her parents had been born in Germany. She had come to America in 1862. Hanna and Machior had been married for 6 years. She had given birth to 4 children but only 3 were still alive. There were two daughters, a step-son and a boarder also living in the home. The daughters were Frances age 17, born in Nov 1882 and Annie born November 1886. The step-son was Albert Than age 12 born in Montana to parents born in Germany. The boarder was Frank Maggie who was a 16 year old butcher who had been born in Italy. (ED 557, page 6B)

On the 10th of January 1920, a barber named Melchiora Sacco and family lived at 1217 60th street in Brooklyn Assembly District 9, Kings County, New York. Melchiora was 62 and had been born in Italy as were his parents. He was renting his home. He had arrived in America in 1888 and became a citizen in 1894. He owned his barber shop. His wife and four children lived with him. The wife was Josephine age 44 also born in Italy as were her parents. She had arrived here in 1894 and was naturalized in 1901. The four children, all born in New York, included Catelina age 18, Albert age 15, Clara age 14 and Harold age 12. (ED 514, sheet 7B)
