LEO- Calabria, San Fili...Guiseppe Leo, Mary Theresa, Concetta Ciancio...
I am updating my post that is in the LEO forum.
I have discovered that Guiseppe (Joe/Joseph) Leo ( b. 1883 San Fili, Italy) who lived in New Rochelle NY and Plainfield NJ also had a father Rafaelle, who frequented the USA and Italy. Joe had 2 sisters, one named Mary Theresa with whom he was very close. Joe's 5 daughters (Lena, Jennie, Mary, Frances, and Angie) all had the middle name of Mary. The other sister of Joe's, who we do not know the name, immigrated to Argentina...there is nothing we know about her. Joe married Concetta Ciancio (adopted name) who was born in Rende, and brought to San Fili to live. She traveled to New Rochelle, NY in Dec of 1910, then to North Plainfield, NJ in or about 1920 (the family cannot be found on any 1920 census.)
Joe married Concetta in Italy in 1906 then immigrated to New Rochelle, NY around 1907 and worked several years before sending for his wife Concetta and son Rafaelle (born 1907). At the time Joe was living with the Manaco family in New Rochelle. It is also said that the family had "Cavaliere" cousins. I have found in the LDS site a Pasqualina Ciancio born in San Fili, Italy who married a Salvatore Cavaliere and immigrated to California. It is possible that the Cavaliere cousin's who lived in Plainfield NJ were relatives of these Cavaliere's and were indeed connected to the Ciancio's/Leo's. At this time this is only speculation. If this "Rings a bell" for anyone, please send me a message. I virtually know nothing of the Italian, San Fili side of the Leo's/Ciancio's and would welcome any info.
Thanks,
