Hi Cori, You're in luck, My uncle and my grandfather were both named Giuseppe Tumia!!!! My uncle came to the US in 1903 and later changed the spelling of his last name from Tumia to Tumea because evidently it was easier to pronounce. I came to the US with my parents in 1960 and also changed our last name to Tumea. Anyway, we came from Villapriolo, Sicily. Villarosa is the county seat and is a couple miles from Villapriolo. Anyway, my grandfather, also a Giuseppe Tumia, was born in Sept 20, 1856 in Villarosa/Villapriolo, Sicily. His father was named Giovanni and died in Villapriolo, Sicily in 1884. His father was named Salvadore Tumia and was born in 1807. As you can see, I've also done some research but it is far from complete. Remember that the Italian alphabet does not have the letter J, so January, --- I don't know. Also, it is not typical for Italian women to retain their maiden names in Sicily. How are you related to Tumia? Tony Tumea Notify Administrator about this message?
