Hi Jeannie....

There is some info on Antonio at Ellis Island. He made more then one trip back and forth to Italy. Also, John, his brother, came to the US as well. In the 1910 census, John is listed in the household with Antonio and family.

Antonio was naturalized and it is in this paperwork you will find place of birth, no doubt. According to one ship's manifest from 1921, he was naturalized on 5/27/1887 in Paterson, NJ. He was arriving on Dec 6, 1921 on a trip to Italy with wife, Vensanda and daughter, Virgina (who was born on April 29th 1907).

He is listed in the census should you need this info. But there is another interesting piece of info...that of the fact that sometime in the past, New Jersey compiled a bunch of documentation on its citizens. There is a listing for Antonio in a publication called: A History of Paterson and It's Environs by William Nelson and Charles A. Shriner, published in NY and Chicago in 1920. The reference # is 3:397-398 which I think is volume three, pages 397-398. There is a good chance this is a listing of his family as it states he was born in 1864 in this index. A New Jersey library might have the volume on hand or through inter-library loans.
There is also another volume with info for Lorenzo Francis Orbe: Who's Who in New Jersey, PA, DE, MD, WVA.,, Vol. 1, published Chicago, 1939. This is a new source of info for me so I am not sure what this contains, but according to the index description these are genealogical in nature so it will be worth your while tracking these two publications down.

Since you have the date of naturalization, you can also get copies of this paperwork. To find any records in Italy, you need to get the town of origin as all records are kept there...there is no "central" place for all records.

If you need the census data, please let me know and I will get it to you.

Good Luck, Susan
