I'm not aware of a Dominic Mercurio, but my husband's great-grandfather was Antonio Mercurio.Antonio was born in 1876 near Nicastro, probably in the village of Bella.Antonio's father was Michael.
Antonio married Teresa Barone, born in 1879, also near Nicastro.Antonio and Teresa had a son Michael, born 1 November 1900.
Antonio left Teresa and Michael and came to America in 1901 with his older relative Francisco Mercurio and Francisco's son, also named Antonio Mercurio.
The three went to Francisco's sister and brother-in-law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In 1905, Teresa, Michael and Teresa's unmarried sister followed and came to Antonio in Pittsburgh.
While in Pennsylvania, Antonio and Teresa had three more children:Joseph (born 27 July 1906), Mary (born 17 Jan 1908) and Ann (born 14 Jun 1909).
Between 1909 and 1912, the family moved to the Little Italy neighborhood of Chicago and began using the name Mercuri.
Between 1912 and 1916, the family moved to the Archer Heights neighborhood of Chicago.Sometime prior to 1920, the family began using the name Mercury.
While in Chicago, Antonio and Teresa had an additional seven children:Rosa, Victoria, Antonette, Frank, Anthony, Roberto and Marvin.(I'm still discovering their birthdates.)
In Italy, Antonio was a mason or bricklayer. He continued to work in this trade after moving to Chicago. But I'm not sure what type of work he may have done while in Pennsylvania.
