Isteds from Sakeham
There is a village of Ysted (pronounced Eested) in Denmark which was supposed to have been named after the Ysted hedge which surrounded the village. The village was apparently swallowed up by Copenhagen over time.Apparently the people of the Isted part of Copenhagen fought with valour in the resistance in the second world war against the Germans. It is difficult to say whether the Isteds in Sussex were from Denmark or Sweden. There appears to be some evidence that Isteds did come from Sweden.
In any event the Isteds settled around Sakeham, Sussex in 1629 according to church records.Because my forebears were strong C of E churchgoers and the name of William reoccurs with monotonous regularity I wonder whether they fled the reformation in continental Europe at the time.
Alfred Isted and his wife Louisa Rose arrived in Western Australia after having left the UK in about 1912 and settled close to Fremantle. He had one son in Fremantle, Alfred Thomas (1914).He had two daughters in UK, Charlotte (1905?) and Cecelia (1908?).Cecelia is still alive at 93 this year.Alfred Thomas had a daughter Bronwyn in 1946, one son William in 1950, and a daughter in 1959.William Isted has had a further son Richard in 1982 as well as a daughter Alexandra in 1990.
