Be careful using the data base, many researchers have posted incorrect information, or information that is based on assumptions. There is no evidence currently available as to Thomas Ismay's parentage. The assertion that his parents are Robert and Margaret Ismay comes from an article in a Somerset Historical Quarterly which stated that a Sarah Ismay, married to John Todd, told descendants she was the daughter of a Lord Robert and Lady Margaret Ismay. Sarah married John Todd and lived in Lamington, NJ. While Sarah may have been a relative, it is unlikely that she was his sister. Thomas did not name any of his children Margaret or Robert, so it is unlikely that these were the names of his parents. Also, there is no record of any Robert Ismay in New Jersey other than a disposition of a small amount in a will (probably a debt payment), and that Ismay may actually have been an Imlay or Embley (both families that intermarried with the Holcombe family, the testator being John Holcombe). Note that the Ismay one name search does not seem to have a Robert, with wife Margaret, that would fit the right age to be parents of Sarah. It is correct that Thomas used Ismay in his early years and Esmay after the Revolution.
