Hi David. Thanks for replying and sorry for delay in getting back to you. I started the Cain/Watterson search 3 years ago and have not got very far, as you say they are very common on IOM. I have not much to go on accept the following marriage from the Parish of Braddan, some of the words I could not read as it was emailed to me by a cousin and not a very good copy! __________________________________________________________ Philip Cain............Cath....Waterson of the Parish were married in the Church ...........on this 14th day of May 1854 by .......Robert Brown. The marriage was solemnized .......in the presence of Philip Cain his x mark Cath......Cain........ Robert Watterson Robert Quiggin ..............?his x mark James Corrin(ie)? ___________________________________________________________ Also on John Thomas' birth certificate it is stated: Born: 15 April 1855 Parish of German Father: Philip Caine Mother: Catharine Watterson Occup of father: Labourer Residing: Lhargydho ___________________________________________________________ On an 1851 census there is a Cain and Watterson family living at 'Quay' Peel. Thomas Watterson and family living at 231 and John Cain and family living at 233. Son Philip is 16, but Thomas Watterson's daughter Catharine is 23? This is the nearest I have been able to come up with, probably assuming that Philip and Catharine's son was called John Thomas after his grandfathers!!! Another 1851 entry has 2 Watterson families, both with daughters Catharine, living at 89 and 96 Ballacarine, surprisingly living at 88 Ballarcarine is Emily Brew's family (John Thomas' future wife)- I wondered if one of the Catharine's would become Philip Cain's wife. But it is all guess work! Any of the above any help? Cheers Pam Notify Administrator about this message?
