Littleton Isbell's name can be found in the back of the book on Andrew Jackson. At that time Jackson was a young man and he was holed up with his neighbour (English spelling)...it has been years ago since I had this book and no longer have it to consult. It was from a footnote.
Anyway, they were under siege from the Torys and in a sore way until the neighour Isbell to the rear of the Tories sounded a retreat and the Tories scuttled off. For anyone interested in the account, I am sure they will be amused. A very quiotic incident and typical of an Isbell solution. I think this young man was connected to the Isbells of Surry Co., NC. Could be wrong! My Isbells connected to the Stokes Co., NC bunch, probably cousins.
